My BeautyBlender Purchase + Review

I bought my BeautyBlender Trio(2 full-size sponges + 1 blendercleanser) three months ago at Dermstore.com. I can’t be happier for how much I paid and what I bought! Here is my previous post about this deal.

Highlights of the purchase:

I paid $32 x 30% = $22.4 + tax + free shipping. If you buy them separately with full price, it’s $58 total!

Here are 2 foil samples Dermstore included in the package. I don’t remember that I picked up any free samples during checkout, I forget to get these often!

My BeautyBlender Review

This sponge is great! I am pretty much using BeautyBlender every day to apply BB cream since I got it. The BeautyBlender will double the size when it’s all soaked wet.

I wrote a Stila Blending Sponge review ($6 at Macy’s)a while ago. Now I can tell you the BeautyBlender is better! It’s softer, blends better and quicker!

I said in the Stila sponge review that washing the sponge before you use it instead of right after you use it for the convenience. Now I take it back! Because it’s not hygiene and the dried out stain is hard to wash. Wash it each time after use.

I use BeautyBlender on:

  • BB cream/Foundation
  • Concealer
  • Contour/Blush

BeautyBlender doesn’t fail me on any of these. There are all kinds of ways to use BeautyBlender, just google or youtube it.

I might try to apply heavy duty sunscreen lotion on my kids’ face before they jump into the pool this summer.

Pros:

  • BeautyBlender blends perfectly well and gives you airbrushed effect
  • It blends quicker and easier than the brush.

Cons:

  • Losing pink dye from the first few washes
  • Have to wash after each use
  • Stains could be hard to get rid of but eventually will be gone

Q: Is using BB sponge really quicker than using the brush?

A: Not really, if you add the time of washing the sponge especially when you are obsessed with washing all the stain away! I don’t need to wash brushes after each use.

Q: Will I buy it again?

A: Yes!

My tips of using BeautyBlender:

  • BeautyBlender works better with liquid or cream than powder
  • Apply the foundation on your face first with your fingers or brush, then blend with the sponge. It’s easier to blend and using less foundation(could be expensive!)
  • Right before you use the sponge, squeeze a bit in the dry towel to rid of excessive water
  • Wash right after each use
  • Use the silicon pad only when it’s necessary since over rubbing on that will shorten the sponge lifespan.

The Cleanser

I have both solid soap and liquid soap so that I can compare here.

Both of them wash the sponge quite well. If you are hurry in the morning, then there might be some stain left behind, but they will be gone at next wash.

Both of them are over priced. I believe the BeautyBlender company make more money from their cleanser than the sponge!

The liquid soap: I don’t like the liquid soap pump. You are supposed to hold the sponge to press down the pump to express the liquid soap. BUT, I don’t know how much could get out, sometimes not enough, sometimes too much, then a mess. What I am doing now is to pump it out with hand but without the sponge.

The Solid soap: I prefer solid soap better, easier to deal with and portable. BUT, the soap is not fixed into the jar, so when you swirl the sponge or brush on the soap, the soap swirl with you in the jar, I don’t like that!

The Sephora Solid Bar is fixed in the jar, so it’s better for me! It’s $14, $2 cheaper than the BB Solid. However, there is chance that the BB solid wash the sponge better. I can’t compare now since I used up the Sephora solid awhile ago and don’t have one now.

I recommend you try much cheaper options, like any gentle cleanser you will use on your face(except the Erno Laszlo black soap). I’ve used Philosophy Purity Made Simple and Dove soap to wash the sponge, both work quite well!

Q: Will I buy BeautyBlender cleanser again?

A: Only when there is a really good promotion.
